Just like many women name their periods (myself included), I think we should be naming our mental illnesses. We could definitely use a sense of levity, especially for us depressed folk.

I have been brain storming my own list and wanted to share. I will keep this post short. Please feel free to list any nicknames you have for mental illness in the comments below. Sending this will love.

  • My Old Friend (an ode to “The Sound of Silence” song by Simon & Garfunkel)
  • The Darkness
  • The Fog
  • The Suck
  • The Great Sad
  • The Ever-present Cloud
  • The Depths of Despair (an ode to Anne of Green Gables)
  • A Low Period
  • The Void
  • My “Great Depression” (an ode to the 1930’s)
  • The Pitt
  • Feeling Bleh
  • Feeling Like Eeyore (an ode to Winnie the Pooh)
    • Sidenote: My favorite Eeyore quote is, “Thanks for noticing me.” (From Winnie the Pooh)
